#6Payments, Checkout & Invoicing

Stripe

In client work
1. What we use it for: We use Stripe Checkout Sessions, signed webhooks, and Stripe Invoicing to collect online program fees, wholesale B2B payments, SaaS subscriptions, and our own fixed-price project milestones.
2. Client use case · A nonprofit education centerState: live
Problem

Teacher-recruitment applicants needed to pay program fees online and have their application records marked paid in MongoDB automatically without manual staff reconciliation.

What the tool did

Wired Stripe Checkout Sessions in the Express backend (`checkout.controller.ts:286`, commit `69b23f1`) with a webhook that verifies payment completion and marks the application paid.

Result

Live in production processing applicant program fees and updating MongoDB application statuses automatically.

2. Client use case · MonliPetsState: live
Problem

Wholesale B2B pet-retailer orders needed online checkout connected to PostgreSQL, WooCommerce inventory, and multi-carrier shipping rates.

What the tool did

Integrated Stripe payment processing into the Next.js and PostgreSQL wholesale ordering portal alongside USPS/FedEx/UPS rate calculation.

Result

Live in production on the MonliPets wholesale platform (Disclosure: MonliPets is my wife's company; the numbers come from their books), and also running on our own pFrame.ai SaaS (which reached 2 paying customers and $212 in revenue as of 2026-10-12).

3. What it costs us or the client

2.9% + $0.30 per successful domestic card charge (plus 0.4%–0.5% for Stripe Invoicing when used); $0 monthly base fee (as of 2026-10-22).

4. Setup notes (how it is wired in)

Backend creates a Stripe Checkout Session carrying the internal application or order ID in `metadata`, and a raw-body webhook handler verifies `stripe-signature` before updating the database record idempotently.

5. What broke & how it was handled

Internal service docs on the nonprofit education center drifted from the code (`services.md` called the integration "Payment Links" while `checkout.controller.ts` actually ran Checkout Sessions), and on our own Greenville Home Pros directory Stripe stayed on test keys while the site remained `noindex` pre-launch—so we verify live webhook signatures and key prefixes before launching any checkout.

6. What we compared it against & why we picked it

Compared against Apple In-App Purchase + RevenueCat (mandatory for digital coaching subscriptions inside the RiseSync iOS app, where Apple rules forbid Stripe) and legacy club billing (a members’ dinner club had "Powered by Stripe" written in `/reserve` page copy while actual billing stayed in its legacy system). For web checkouts, B2B ordering, and agency invoicing, we picked Stripe.

How an engagement runsthree steps, in order

Three separate steps. Stop after any of them.

Step 1 is a free 15-minute fit call. Step 2 is the AI Staff Assessment, $500, a written assessment you keep. Step 3 is your first hire at a published price, or you take the assessment and stop.

Step 1

Fit call

$0 · 15 min
  • tell me which job eats your week: the phone, the inbox, marketing or support
  • I tell you whether an AI hire fits, and whether I am the right person for it
  • you leave with the first hire I would start with
  • a slide deck

video call · same week

book it
Step 2

AI Staff Assessment

$500
  • a 60-minute video call about how your business runs
  • my written assessment the same day: whether an AI hire would pay for itself, the job I would hand off first, what to settle first, and the fixed price for that first hire
  • not taken off the build, and no separate quoting call: the assessment names the package at its published price
  • proposals written before anyone learned your business

paid when you book · not taken off the build

Step 3

Your first hire

fixed price
  • Front Desk Hire or Brain + First Hire, at the published price
  • built in 2 to 6 weeks, then 30 days of tuning
  • or take the assessment and stop there
  • bench developers you never met
