Is my Lovable, Bolt or Cursor app safe to launch?

David He, FounderUpdated 3 min read
The short answer

Probably not yet, if nobody has checked the five things AI coding tools most often get wrong: database access rules, secret keys in the browser, permission checks on the server, payment and webhook handling, and limits on abuse. You can test all five yourself in an afternoon. If any of them fail, or your app holds customer data or takes payments, get a human review before launch.

Why AI-built apps fail in the same places

AI coding tools write the feature you asked for. They rarely write the guard around it unless you ask. The result works perfectly in a demo and is wide open in production. Security reviewers who look at many of these apps report the same short list of problems again and again, and one 2026 study of 200 deployed Lovable and Claude Code apps reported at least one vulnerability in 91% of them.

The five checks

1. Can one user read another user's data? Most of these apps use Supabase or a similar database that the browser talks to directly. If row level security is off, or the rules are too loose, anyone with your public key can read every row. Test it: make two accounts and try to load the second account's records while logged in as the first.

2. Are secret keys in the browser? Open your live site, open the browser's developer tools, and search the loaded JavaScript for "sk_", "service_role" and "secret". Payment, email and admin keys must live only on the server.

3. Does the server check permissions on every action? Hiding a button is not security. Copy a request from the developer tools network tab, change the record ID, and send it again. If it works, anyone can do it.

4. Are payments and webhooks verified? If you use Stripe, check that your webhook handler verifies Stripe's signature, and that what a customer gets comes from the server, never from a price the browser sends.

5. Can someone abuse it? Look for sign-up, login, password reset and any AI feature that costs you money per use. Without rate limits, one script can create thousands of accounts or run up your AI bill overnight.

When to pay for a human review

Do the five checks yourself first. Pay for a review when:

  • any check failed and you are not sure the fix is complete,
  • the app stores customer data, health or money information,
  • you take payments, or
  • you are about to show it to investors, a large customer, or a developer you plan to hire.

Automated scanners are a good first pass and cheap. They miss the business-logic problems in checks 1 and 3, which is where the worst leaks come from.

What NexAI's review covers

The AI app audit is a human review of what you shipped: the access rules, secrets, permission checks, payments and abuse limits above, plus whether it will hold up with real users. I review what shipped, write the plan that makes it safe, and either hand you the plan or take it to production myself. It is from $500: $500 working session · $1,500 to $2,500 full 6-pass repo audit · $4,500 to $8,000 hardening sprint. Turnaround: written audit report within 24 hours. Start with the free app readiness checklist if you want to work through it yourself.

More questions founders with ai-built apps ask

Are Lovable apps secure?

Lovable has improved its defaults, but security still depends on how your app was built, especially your database access rules. Test that one user cannot read another user's data before you launch.

What is the most common security hole in vibe-coded apps?

Database access rules that are off or too loose, so anyone with the public key can read data that belongs to other users. Exposed secret keys in the browser are a close second.

Can I use an AI tool to check my AI-built app?

Yes, as a first pass. Scanners catch exposed keys and known patterns cheaply. They miss business-logic permission bugs, so a person should still check who can read and change what.

How long does a pre-launch review take?

For a typical founder app, a day or two. NexAI's turnaround: written audit report within 24 hours.
